Software Engineer DevOps – Defence

As Software Engineer DevOps in the defence environment, you are responsible for building, further developing, and stably operating modern cloud and platform solutions. You provide scalable, secure, and automated development and operations environments that enable the reliable deployment of complex software and system solutions. You work in projects in the Bundeswehr environment and in the defence-adjacent industry. The role requires willingness to travel, as significant portions of the work may take place on-site at the customer's premises.

Your Tasks

  • Develop, operate, and optimise CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes.
  • Design and operate scalable cloud and platform architectures.
  • Automate infrastructure processes using Infrastructure as Code.
  • Ensure the stable, secure, and high-performance operation of applications in cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Monitor systems, analyse fault patterns, and derive measures for stability and performance optimisation.
  • Implement security requirements and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in the defence environment.
  • Establish standards, tools, and processes for efficient and reproducible operations.
  • Work closely with development and architecture teams and optimise transitions between development and operations.
  • Support the selection, introduction, and further development of platform and cloud technologies.
  • Actively contribute your expertise to interdisciplinary project teams.

Required Skills

  • Completed degree in computer science or a comparable field.
  • Several years of experience in DevOps, platform, or operations environments.
  • Sound knowledge of cloud technologies, such as AWS, Azure, or comparable.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools, such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, or comparable.
  • Experience with container technologies, such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform, Ansible, or comparable.
  • Experience in monitoring, logging, and operating distributed systems.
  • Understanding of software architectures and their operational requirements.
  • Experience in agile project environments.
  • Understanding of Bundeswehr procurement processes, in particular CPM and PBN.
  • Excellent German and English language skills (written and spoken) at C1 level.
  • Willingness to undergo a security vetting procedure in accordance with the SÜG.
