Project Management Officer – Defence

As Project Management Officer Defence you take on a central role in building, further developing, and professionalising PMO structures. You support demanding projects at the Bundeswehr and in the defence-adjacent industry with high organisational, technical, and regulatory complexity. Since significant portions of your work may take place on-site at the customer's premises, you are willing to travel.

Your Tasks

  • Strategically build and further develop PMO structures, processes, and governance models.
  • Support complex projects and programmes methodically and operationally in procurement, organisation, and transformation.
  • Participate in Bundeswehr-related procurement processes, in particular CPM and PBN.
  • Plan, manage, and monitor schedules, resources, risks, and quality in project and programme structures.
  • Establish standards, templates, reporting formats, and management instruments, including in IT-adjacent environments.
  • Coordinate technical and subject-matter interfaces between all project participants.
  • Take over stakeholder and communications management vis-à-vis clients, project managers, and other participants.
  • Support change and optimisation initiatives in stable and dynamic organisational structures.

Required Skills

  • Completed degree with a technical, business, or comparable focus.
  • At least three years of experience as a project manager, ideally in larger projects with a technical development component.
  • Excellent knowledge of proven project management methods and experience building and operating PMO structures.
  • Understanding of Bundeswehr-related procurement processes, in particular CPM and PBN.
  • Experience in stakeholder, risk, change, or process management.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and coordinate complex project landscapes in a structured manner.
  • Fluent German and English language skills (written and spoken).
  • Willingness to undergo a security vetting procedure in accordance with the SÜG.

  • PMI certification desirable but not required.
